About Eastwood Kennel's training courses

Obedience – what is it?  Defining obedience in terms of human-canine relationships too often stops at the accomplishment of a command. That is only the superficial display of the control you need in achieving the desired state of a reliable, responsive relationship with your dog.

Reliable performance has been achieved only after a mental commitment by the dog to choose to do the right action, often in the absence of a command.  Obedience training at Eastwood is designed to educate you, who then trains your canine companion to become a reliably obedient dog. As an obedience course graduate you may expect to attain the knowledge and skills to achieve a mutually respectful relationship, as it is that relationship combined with proper training, that produces a reliable, lifetime companion for the team of you and your canine.

As an obedience course graduate you should never need another trainer for your future dogs. Your course is documented with a student workbook that has been purchased by owners and trainers in the United States, Canada, Scotland, and France. You will be given the knowledge and shown the techniques that produce a reliable dog for any breed. As a graduate you may take advantage of free, post-course, lifetime assistance if you need to refresh your skills, and maintain Eastwood's guarantee for off-lead reliability. During the course there is no charge for telephone consultation, or between class visits if you feel the need for additional instruction.

Your upland training program will be designed for you and your dog as an individual team. If you want to do so, it will include training to meet all levels of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog (NAVHDA) testing requirements. (See the NAVHDA link for more information.)  The exact level of training will be selected on your specific needs in the field.
